Laidric Stevenson

Laidric Stevenson is a self-taught Dallas based photographer. Originally born in Wisconsin, he attended the University of Texas-Arlington graduating with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Sociology. His work explores themes such as nostalgia, the topographical changes of the urban landscape, and the forgotten details that the never ending technological race to perfection has left behind. He works with film camera in formats ranging from Polaroid all the way up to large format. He believes that photography truly shines as an art form when it is presented in the book format. Because of that he is a frequent self-publisher of small photo books and zines, mostly for himself, but he one day believes that he'll have a project worth enough for a Kickstarter campaign.

Two X’s

The one event the city of Dallas will never be able to escape is the assassination of President Kennedy. Dealey Plaza is a tourist attraction, drawing people not only from around the US, but from all over the world.

For 2 years I would go to Dealey to walk among the people, eavesdrop on their various conspiracy theories, or to listen to parents relive their memories of that day to their children.

But l always found myself watching the people who wanted to take photos in the middle of Elm Street standing next to or on the X’s (marking the approximate location of the Presidential Limo at each shot), completely ignoring the fact that Elm is a major three-lane one way artery out of downtown Dallas where drivers are all too familiar trying to avoid tourists trying to snap a quick photo.
