Brenda Edith Franco
Born and raised in Houston, TX, Brenda Edith Franco uses image, video and mixed media installations to explore relationships, psychology, and the experience of being a first generation American of Mexican and Honduran descent. By observing cultural norms, iconic imagery, she creates narratives based around ideas of loss, self-analysis, and the fluidity of identity.
In her series Hija (En Casa), she collaborates with her parents to create tender moments between child-parent relationships from the perspective of the child. The extent of this eternal bond is created as many of us do with our parents, biological or otherwise, gives access to vignettes that hold truth that at times may not always be pretty but enticing in their honesty.
